JeParody! – That’s right! You read it correctly! Something that is a parody is that which is similar to something else. So, JeParody! is similar, but yet different than what you see on TV’s Jeopardy. In both, contestants select from 5 different categories on a board, all of which are horizontal on the grid (see game board), and then select from 5 different dollar values, all of which are vertical. As difficulty increases from higher to lower, so do the dollar amounts.
Once Doug reads a clue, the contestants ring in using their buzzer. The computer automatically displays the order in which each person buzzes in, be it first, second, third, etc. Doug calls on whoever buzzed in first. If the answer is correct, he’ll move on to the next question. If wrong, the second person will be called on; if wrong again, then the third person, etc. You got it!
Now, the big difference between what you see on TV from Doug’s game is that with the former only 3 contestants can play at a time — with Doug’s, on the other hand, as many as 10 contestants can play. That’s right!
There are numerous ways to play JeParody!, either by individual contestants, or by teams.
If by individual contestants, several games might be played, each with different players. Then, those who are claimed the winner of each game, proceed forward for a final round – with one being crowned the champion!
If by teams, the methods of play are endless. It might be 5 team members against another 5, or maybe each of the 10 contestants represents a team. In that case, once a board is cleared, each contestant passes their hand-held buzzer to the next team member in line. There might be several consecutive games, all the while the points continue to cumulate from one team member to the next. Then, instead of one person being crowned, it’s the entire team!
